A deerskin flogger with lots of tails is a great place to start. Delightfully “thuddy” and almost impossible to hurt someone with it’s a great confidence and skill, builder. Later you can move to cowhide, bullhide or exotics.

For fun purposes a riding crop is stingy but not too painful. A thin paddle packs more a thud but still not terrible. Avoid thick heavy paddles and whips if actual real pain isn't your deal.

We started with a flogger so valid. My only complaint/concern was I got random kidney shots off one of the of tails when she was first learning to use it.

Given the choice between a Flogger or a Riding Crop; I would choose the Riding Crop. Goog luck… sounds like a fun Journey for you both!😎

Nice! Sometimes I'll get a few smacks in the heat of the moment, but it's very rare we have any time dedicated specifically to spanking. I should bring up how I'd enjoy that more often.

Keep in mind the size of her hand and arm strength. Get a paddle that fits her hand comfortably and doesn’t wear her out. You might need several types, each to match her mood for the moment. You will know what you are in for by the paddle she is holding.
