Hey all, I'm starting a project that I'm really excited about! Recently, I found software called 123D Catch. It allows you to take multiple pictures of an object from multiple perspectives and stitch them together to create a 3D image. This can then be turned into a mesh and modified in Meshmixer. From there, you can further customize it and create solids in 123D Design. Finally you can send the design to a printing service to have it printed in whatever you choose. All this with open source software! I think you know where I'm going with this. I have a vision, and it will become reality. My plan is to create a "virtual mold" of my penis and create as many different designs of chastity device around that mold as I/we can think of, pick the best one, and try it. All the while, I'll try to keep this thread updated and will consider all the input I can get from the CM community. I know it's a long shot, and it might take a while, but it should be fun! I'm super excited and can't wait to start!!
Remember, the Geeks will inherit the earth. Actually I think with Google beating Apple to be the biggest company in the world I think they already have!
I've done some 3D design and printing using a Maker bot. I used early versions of 123D Design. I never got good at the software, printing was fussy, and the final product not all that good. My conclusion was that it takes time to learn the software tools and Makerbot is not ready for production. I tried to design and print a chastity tube with internal spikes for discomfort. I got the tube, the spikes, and half the base ring lock done and printed. I failed to design and print the base ring before running out of time and access to the printer. No big loss as it was fairly crude and would not have been used much. That said, there is so much potential. People who know the software can design complex things and there are good printers out there that you can "rent" time on. I think this is the future of a lot of physical production. Especially for individualized things like chastity devices. Please do report on the progress.
I completely agree pokekey. The learning curve for 3D design software, even basic stuff, is quite steep! I don't plan on using a maker bot to print my end use product. I plan on sending the design to a service that prints in titanium with a SLM machine. Should be fun!
As for an update, to be brief, I scanning myself is extremely difficult, even with help. But I did manage to get a great detailed scan and model of a realistic dildo that is very similar in proportion to my own penis. So I have that model and its scaled to match me perfectly. Now I have something to build off of!
watching with extreme interest.. if nothing else, being able to get an accurate 3D model of your parts to send to someone of the chastity makers would be excellent, especially for those of us who are sporting a Piercing... if its a near 1:1 model they can make a perfect fitting device. Also wondering if printing a titanium device Vs sending a plastic copy of ones parts to a device maker would be cheaper or not. Watching with interest
I need some opinions! Let's say, hypothetically, that you have a close to perfect, form fitted chastity tube. Basically a hollow titanium replica of your parts. It has two holes just large enough to accommodate a PA ring. Here's the question, how many vent holes are necessary and where? I'd like to have as few as possible. Any thoughts?
i too would love somehting like this, especially a fully sealed away glans , but i suspect you will need it be loose enough to allow water to rinse around, and enough vent holes so you can keep dry after washing and get ear buds in to wipe around
I have had poor luck getting anything accurate with 123d catch. You are better off using calipers to take a ton of measurements and model a similar organic shape. I found that medium to smallish vent holes cause edema, and closed tubes are hard to really keep clean aerated and dry. You may be able to create very small holes in the 1-2mm range almost creating a mesh. I haven't tried it yet so I can't tell you how it would work. @NightA for a relative scale, it costs more to 3D print titanium then any of the Lori devices.
Scanning is tough. It took quite a few tries to get a really good scan. -You need even/diffuse lighting ex: outside on a bright overcast day. -You need distinct edges/corners in close proximity to the object ex: sticky notes around or newspaper underneath. -You can't have anything shiny or reflective in the pictures. -Use the recommended number of pictures from the recommended angles and fill the whole frame with the object of possible. When I scanned the dildo,(lol) I first painted it matte black, then rubbed powdered sugar (white powder) on it to give the details depth. Then put it on a cardboard box with black lettering, then went outside on an overcast day. This gave me an excellent scan. Hope that helps! @pokekey
@dizzy Thanks for the info! I'm just now getting back to this project as I've been super busy. So here's an update. I've been contemplating the vent holes a lot and have been pretty fixated on trying the mesh like idea. 1mm holes thoughout the entire tube except around the opening, a strip running the length of the tube top and bottom, and a strip around the base of the glans. Something like that at least... I wonder how the skin would react to that.. I want to try several different designs in plastic and then choose the best for metal. Also, I've been tossing around the idea of printing it in sterling silver. Not only is it good looking and piercing safe, it has antimicrobial properties as well.
Sounds very complicated ill stick with my CVA Mk1A, born 1956, Harrison 600 Universal, born 1977 here in God's own country, Miller Goldstar Tig and a good old fashioned vernier but good to 0001" Good luck with your venture @Unyielding
