I wonder if any of you have had allergic reactions to stainless steel devices? I have a good quality steel one (lori 8c) and it seems I develop red irritated skin after several days of continuous wear. I have never been able to have it on long term because of this.

How common is stainless steel allergies, and have any of you needed to look for another material because of it? I am bummed ,because I thought by buying a good stainless one it wouldn't be an issue.

    Thanks!

Hi , without knowing the exact grade and type of stainless steel in question it is hard to say if it is causing you the problem
not all stainless is the same , most will contain chromium ,carbon ,iron ,nickel and molybdenum in greater or lesser levels dependant on grade and type , so you may have a reaction to one of these ,
given that it is a good quality device I would say it is not likely to be a problem but still possible,
as posted above it could just be dying of the skin and needs some lube
personally I have never reacted badly to stainless, but I have known it to happen ,

Most stainless steels contain nickel, which can cause skin reactions.

Have you tried wearing a surgical stainless steel ring? I have sensitive skin and my 316L MaleChastityNow devices work for me.

You want to know if jewelry / surgical steel causes a nickel allergy.

Male-Essentials sells some glans rings in 316L (link) for $17 you could try.

Aside: It’s a mystery to me how Lori makes their devices. It seems like they are casted, not welded.

Even 316 & 316L has appreciable (10-14%) nickel content. Some people are just more sensitive than others.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, it is 316L. I don't have regular allergies, nor problems wearing other types of metals normally. But I don't go in showers with other jewelry on. Can water from the shower react with the stainless steel?

316L is the lower carbon alloy compared to 316. That gives it better weldability in some situations.

My advice was to try some other known high quality 316L ring to see if your skin reacts. If you have a nickel allergy that sensitive you might be stuck. You can also get an allergy test if you like.

And you’re supposed to try and stay dry. Urine clinging to skin and trapped under metal isn’t sexy. That might be your bigger issue. I had a cage that trapped moisture and I got a rash there.

This wasn’t a problem when I switched to my open-design Contender. I find it’s very smooth and doesn’t have any surface undulations or anything to trap dirt or moisture.
