My preference is cask-strength, single-cask whiskies, Scotch or Scotch-style (such as the Japanese whiskies). Not chill-filtered, not diluted (standard commercial whiskies are diluted with water down to 40-43% alcohol), strong stuff but rich and complex. For a favorite distillery I'd say Clynelish. I prefer Speysides to Islay. That said, there are wonderful whiskies of all sorts.

I've had a few offerings from Abita and enjoyed every one. Chimay is incredible, both the grand reserve and the others. I have to get some 1554 again; I had it a couple of times and liked it. And nothing is wrong with lawnmower beers, though I don't have those that often.

I like every style of beer I've tried, but I probably like IPAs, stouts, and some styles of German and Belgian beer the most. I won't list many particulars within the each of those styles, but as it seems you like Belgians too, here are a few you might be interested in.

Gulden Draak is really lovely in my opinion. They recently did one aged in Calvados casks that amplifies what is going on in it. I'm hoping they'll do the Calvados some more.

Though it is highway robbery in the US ($6/11 oz), Orval is amazing.

I think you would definitely love Rochefort 10 and St. Bernardus 12 if you like Chimay blue label.

My favorite is Tullamore Dew and Jameson Whiskey.
But rarely, and little. But just a good cigar.
Evening. A sort of "Boston Legal" feeling :)

A good whisky is one YOU like. I'm in the middle of whisky country here in Aberdeen and my favourite is a Glenfarclas 15. Might be next door to Glenfiddoch, but it's quite different.

I've only had the 12 of PVW and the 10 year. I enjoyed both. I'm guessing I have to try to older versions as high wheat mash bill bourbon seems to do better with the added years.

I have been on a rye kick of late. I love Bulleit Rye, but I had a chance to try 291 Rye when I was in Colorado and it was mighty tasty!

The best i ever had was a 1976 Bunnahabhain Mission, but i could kick myself that i opened that bottle, since it would have been a good investment...
Highland Park 18 is also great, very complex but perfectly balanced flavors.
I prefer more fruity flavors most of the times like Auchentoshan Three Woods or Balvenie Double Wood, but when i'm in the mood for some smoke, it's Talisker or Lagavulin.

I really want to try Highland Park. Do you think their lower age or NA statement ones are worth it?

I know the 12, 15 and 16 year old. The 12 yrs is one of the best in that price range. The other two are also very tasty, but too expensive compared to the 18yrs.
I haven't tried the 10 year old, but the reviews i read were only mediocre.
