Cage preventing erections

Im interested in more information on cage sizing to prevent erections. I struggle with the cage moving when I'm sleeping because I seem to have a non stop erection while I'm sleeping and caged, more than when I am not in my cage. I think my cage fits me pretty well and my flaccid penis fills the entire cage but I still get erections so intense that when I take the cage off I have imprints on my dick from the holes in the cage. My skin literally bulges out from the holes and stays swollen for a bit after taking it off. I see people wearing bibs and flat cages all the time so I assume that going TOO small isn't a health or safety issue? If that's the case then maybe I should experiment with an even smaller cage?

Yep i get the imprints too, never had a problem and i've worn for weeks with no problem, just takes a bit of perseverance, i'm used to it now

i had the same problem when i'm caged! Usually, in the otherwise peaceful environment of the early morning, something happens and whoa nelly, my clitty would try to go to town and it's really really uncomfortable because of all the skin being stretched! i do a special kinda Training and it helps calm me down!

I enjoy the feeling but I just remember reading that if your cage is a little too big it allows you to get a partial erection and is more painful. The thing I have an issue with is the ring on the bottom of my balls. I get pressure bruises there from it.

Imprints in themself do no harm. If it hurts it is another matter though.
The CB6000 series f.e. has been more like a torture device than anything else to me. No small thanks of it due to the small, rather shap edged and painfull holes. There are way better devices without such problems though.

Just a newbeee here, does the length of cage and/or the ring size matter more? Looser to tighter better for both?
The length of the cage should be your flaccid length. If you have room to grow length-wise, the cage is probably too long.

The width of the cage can be a bit wider than your flaccid girth; having it too narrow can cause issues.

The ring size should be as small as you can comfortably and safely wear, which means do NOT cut off circulation! There's a "finger test" you can do, but different people need different allowances, so just be careful!

The gap is the other important detail. Too much gap between the ring and the cage is a problem. Too little gap can be painful or dangerous. And a floppy gap is bad.

Angle is important to some people. I tend to go with a steeper angle to keep the cage discreet.

Material is important, and varies among users. Plastic can get stinky and worse, but some people here are very happy with plastic. I've used plastic, but disliked it and had issues keeping it all clean. Some 3d prints are plastic and very high quality.

Silicone is an option, but it also has some stink issues; I've used high grade silicone and I liked it, but only used it for travel periods.

Most people here use stainless steel, I think. It's heavier, but easier to keep clean and often better for breathability.

High end is titanium. Most people here who have purchased custom titanium cages are impressed with the results.

Not to be a smart ass...
Really, since when?
Lololol I'm kidding!
Settle down.

It sounds like your fit is fine, just a matter of getting used to.
There are folks on either side of the debate: no slack space vs. room to grow a bit.

I agree with @Mr_anonymous: if there's never, or rarely, any slack space you're probably at or close to a good size. It just took me a while to figure out how to go to sleep.

My smallest cage allows absolutely zero movement. To me, it's the most comfortable. @MrsKyDave generally prefers one that has a few mm of space because it make teasing easier for her and more frustrating for me.

Your milage may vary.
