Fetish clothing going mainstream

I have been lately wondering if the clothing that was previously considered taboo and only seen in fetish is now more mainstream. Since Kim Kardashian wore the latex dresses, it has become more acceptable and has become the in thing in fashion.

Even in my country India, which is typically conservative, it is now more common to see women in leather tights/ pants/ skirts.
Recently we were out to a Pub and saw a young girl in a faux leather bustier crop top, which is quite cool. Since such tops were usually seen only in fetish stores.
My wife herself is now more open and adventurous in going out in such outfits. She has now worn her knee length boots or shiny faux leather leggings more than once when going out. Which i had bought mostly for our "sessions".

Dresses which were previously considered too "slutty" by some are now more acceptable. What are the thoughts of other members here? Do you feel the same?

I see fetish or kinky type clothes go in and out of fashion fairly regularly. Depending of course, on what you consider to fit in that category. High fashion likes to be on the edge, and it may only reach the so called stars. Trickling down to daily wear for everyday people is less likely. Still visibility is cool.

Yes cows are sacred to us Hindus. Infact most animals are , but cows particularly because we consume their milk. But wearing leather jackets is quite common in India, specially in north were winters are quite cold. Artificial or real leather, people usually don't care. Some strict followers may avoid them though. We usually try not carry or wear any real leather when entering a temple. Since most stuff these days is art leather anyway, so its all fine.

It is becoming more popular because society is hyper sexualized more and more so it is normal that what long ago was a tabu thing now it is normal, the more traditional regions are starting sexualization while the ones which already are keeps going on it

I have mixed feelings about this.

When I was a kid, kink and fetish was something you would see only glancingly referred to in popular culture, and even then you had to be looking for it to spot it. Really the only place you could find it was in the skin magazines that hid in our dads’ closets and garages.

Even the more “respectable“ men’s magazines like Playboy only parted that veil slightly; but sometimes, buried deep in the stack, or in some other, better-hidden stack, there would be the ones whose pictures and stories struck a much deeper chord than the airbrushed Bunnies with their vapid smiles.

The names of those magazines are mostly lost to me, but I do remember that finding a Bob Guccione magazine always promised something more. Penthouse was likely to have a nugget or two of bdsm or fetish (the pictures, of course, nearly always had women in submissive roles, but the articles and stories often explored more intriguing possibilities); Penthouse Letters was very hit or miss; but finding an issue of Penthouse Variations was like striking gold.

Over the years I’ve watched fetish move into the mainstream (or more accurately, the mainstream has grown to include fetish). And I’m actually quite grateful that society has grown somewhat more accepting of many forms of sexual expression, including fetish.

But each time this happens, it gets a little more commoditized and loses just a little bit of its power. Images that would have transfixed me, poring over those magazines years ago, now barely warrant a second glance.

I think there’s a paradox of sorts at work here: how can a fetish be a fetish without some element of the forbidden? Does the attraction lie in the thing itself, or in the transgression inherent in being attracted to the thing?

I enjoy fetish clothes getting more mainstream. Think it's also due to the fact woman a getting more empowered these days. It's a healthy movement of society and submissives might enjoy even more than the rest of the population. I don't see it as much as a sexual thing more a empowerment. Women that are powerful is more accepted due to celebrities, movies, metoo etc.

Blame the internet! Haha! Yes. Undoubtedly what was once considered "fetish" wear or "taboo" activities, it's no longer the case. To some degree, lifestyle choices that were once only seen behind closed curtains are now much more accepted in the wider population of developed countries.

I remember discovering or delving deeper into the world of BDSM arranging my first appointment with a professional Dominatrix some 14 or so years back. The internet was well established and well established and highly regardedDominatrix' and Doms here in the UK were few and far between. They had plied their trade through the ages of private advertising in specialist magazines or word of mouth and they evolved and gave glimpses into their world through the medium of websites. You had to jump through some serious hoops to get an appointment and it wasn't cheap! Twitter is awash with "professionals" now and a lot of them are barely out of their teens. The mind boggles!

They made a mainstream movie about BDSM! That's how accepted it is. I'll be honest with you. I personally, it lost it's edge for me a few years ago but once the Pandora's Box has been opened.....

If it's true then I think it is regrettable. I've never thought fetish wear was particularly representative of the link, just a porn industry bastardization of it.

Typically seems to me like those styles will trickle down from the celebrities until they’re affordable for the general public. I just saw an article about Victoria Beckham wearing $750 vinyl pants for a date night. Katy Perry wore latex dresses and outfits for several tours earlier in her career, I’m sure they helped certain styles of fetish clothing see mainstream wear.
Leather can be fairly classy on the right person though, it really depends on how a person wears it and what they wear with it.
