We’ve all had days where we feel like we (individuals) are the only real professionals at our job and everyone else is here just because they can be. Today is definitely one of those days…

First, one coworker got fired on the spot because he decided to swap out a bunch of price tags and then buy the merchandise much cheaper. Idiot!

Second, another coworker got fired because she “had a major crush” on the guy she was ringing out at the sales counter and wanted to be nice to him so she gave him a bunch of illegal discounts. Lord knows what that cost the store… Clearly thinking with something other than her head.

And just an hour ago, I told another coworker that I had to use the restroom and needed him to watch the counter for a few minutes. When I got back he wasn’t there and there was a long line of customers waiting for somebody/anybody to checkout. He told me there was nobody there when he walked away and I told him he was supposed to stay there until I got back.

I still got several hours left of my shift… I’m within 5 minutes of going Darth Vader on the staff!

It's called a lightsaber not a staff

It really depends on what industry you are in. Retail with low salaries does not attract the best and brightest. I started my working life in a department store so I know what you are going through. As i entered professions where intelligence was needed it was a whole different experience for me. Sure people still made mistakes and some were unable to understand new technology but for the most part, no idiots as a mistake can cost thousands of dollars and lost a million dollar customer.

I know what you are feeling. I was educated in gifted student programs in private schools so to me, my idiot threshold is lower than most. I never expected my employees to be perfect but once in a great while there was an idiot. Funny thing is that everyone I fired told me that they were my best employee. Then I showed them the information proving that they did much less work than all the others and still they said they were my best worker and that they did less because I gave them all the difficult accounts. In reality I gave them the easy accounts but I have learned in my Psychology classes in college that stupid people often think they are smarter than they really are. It is a human protection that prevents people from feeling that they are less smart than everyone else around them.

When you say stupid people think they’re smarter than everyone else, you totally nailed it… I often get into arguments with customers over the price of an item(s), only to pull out a calculator and show them they can’t haggle with me because they don’t know simple arithmetic. LOL!

I had one customer a couple months back who didn’t believe me when I told them are are 16 ounces to a pound, they insisted it was 10 ounces until I did a google search and showing her. I was actually happy to embarrass her for it because she tried to make me look stupid.

During the holidays last year, I had literally dozens of customers ask me if I had gift boxes and I tell then “Yeah, they’re right behind me…” then they turn around and say “I don’t see anything!” So I firmly reply “Behind ME, not behind you!” And they say “Oh…

And I’m thinking “How the Hell did you get your driver’s license? In a crackerjack box or something?!”

I had one coworker who would walk away from the process every time I went to break or lunch. Everything would go to hell each time. He would always claim, “it just did that on its own”. In one regard he was correct, left alone things would go haywire. It took a little tweaking here and there to stay on track. One day after I went to lunch, I returned early and caught the process ready to crash, and his worthless ass at the other end of the building talking to someone. We had a serious discussion.

We get in walk ins for random work at our shop. The hard fast rule is nothing that moves on a vehicle. Liabltly and insurance reasons if that part fails going down interstate causes a pile up for example. People will argue tooth and nail ill sign a waiver, won't sue etc. We do military contracts for aircraft carriers and parts they don't even tell us what they're for. Yes let's endanger that for $100 to alter your rims lol.

I don’t know if you’re his supervisor but I would’ve fired him.

Just last month, I totally went off on several other sales clerks who simply didn’t care about anything and were evidently here just for a quick paycheck. They were turning back customers instead of trying to resolve an issue or even just help them look for an item they wanted.

I rounded them up and in front of everyone, I yelled: “Seriously! We haven’t been making our sales plan and you’re turning customers away?! Are you out of your fu@king minds?!” I then made a recommendation to the store’s higher management that they put those individuals on official notice and they took me up on it.

I heard one of them quit afterward, the others haven’t been scheduled as many hours since then.

You’re all not going to believe this… Another idiot working at the store just got fired because he got caught jerking off in the womens fitting room. SMDH!

And I’m the one locked in chastity…

There is always an idiot, if you can't find the idiot, you are the idiot
Hey! Some days, I resemble that remark!
Fortunately not many. I figure we all have an allotment of stupid mistakes, but some people week to have entire freight train's worth, and others very rarely make a mistake.
I try to be the latter.

But now that I'm working with a professional manager, I find i care far less. He thinks he can put one woman on the "baby" task, and get it in three weeks. Maybe people don't like the tone, but think it through: even an idiot should try to put more people on a task, to speed it up; right? But that doesn't happen.
Do more with less! (And no raises, ever.) I'm about ready to tell them they can do more with less, one person less, because they ignore the labor in making sure the machines are ready whenever they're needed. They also want the task completed faster than it can be. But use fewer people, and make it cost less. Well, the tools cost X, the maintenance costs Y in time, and I'm only paid for 40 hours, and I'm not a Junior with no responsibilities - it takes what it takes. I won't work my people (when I had people) 80 hours a week until they burn out, to meet a deadline that never should've been considered in the first place. It's not 3 days to write a test approach, when there are 6 hours of meetings each day; it's not a half day to collect all the details from our monitoring, to figure out what's slow in the system. (It can take a week, easily, sometimes. Just need to slice the data the right way. And 88 slides, or 122 pages of data, collecting it by hand, explaining how it was analyzed, what it means, that takes TIME. Then add in the testing itself, checking the machines, meetings, write a plan for this, an approach for that, estimate the hours required so we can estimate the people needed, but we won't give you the people anyway - yeah, I know cost of living is up 300%, but you don't need a raise, just do more with less. You don't need coffee, or movies, or streaming, or recreation, or gyms, or anything but the job! Just be a Space Marine in service to the Emperor/corporation! Hmm, no.)

Somehow, lots of idiots get promoted... Very discouraging. Is also not unique, I was watching something on foreign militaries today, how in certain groups, including the USSR armies, it was essential to never show up the officer, never be smarter than the officer, or more capable, or know more, and never let the information get out of control. E.g., US forces gave the manuals for the tanks to their allies of (group), and the CO came around right afterwards to confiscate the manuals. If the people were able to read from the manual, he wouldn't be the star player any more... (And admitting the manual was needed would be a sign of weakness anyway, so the tank commanders wouldn't read it, and wouldn't allow their crew mates to read it, either. WTF? But better to die nobly than to pursue appropriate knowledge transfer, to ensure survival.)

Well, as George Carlin said, "Remember, half the population - is below average."
(Sigh)

Maybe Trump gets votes from these people.
You should not throw rocks living in a glass house.
Germany has the worst political situation in the western world.
(Maybe keep your political views to yourself)
I am not a Trumper -but do YOU really think Kamala has world leader potential?
If you do I pity you.

Glad the AfD got traction in the last German elections, BUT freedom of speach is now a thing of the past in Germany thanks to ppl like you voting for censorship.

Lets not get into politics here... We will ignore you if you insist on it!

When you say stupid people think they’re smarter than everyone else, you totally nailed it…

There's some truth in it and it's called the Dunning-Kruger effect. Not thinking "smarter than everyone else", but stupid people really believe they are smarter than they really are.

I'm interested in your reasoning as to WHY exactly you think Germany has the worst (!) political situation in the western world and HOW's censorship been voted for by anyone?
And even though you are the native speaker of English, it's up to me to point out that's spelled "freedom of speech".

I would just ignore him. Anything political is a red line for me.
