figured someone may have questions on how these work and since i have both versions i figured i would post a few pics and see if anyone was intererested in them but mabe was afraid of asking/buying one.
The app controlled one is typically male and the one with the enclosed padlock
This is a variation of the pushbutton ones you see all over ebay that scare me to wear in public like this, why, the push pin is the ONLY thing holding the waistband on you, i expected a pin that threaded or etc that would act more as a safety lock and some of those get pretty expensive. i didn't show the whole belt as this plate is the only unique part of this.
this design at least the belt is pretty much secured in place and the door and locks only job is to prevent you from gettting the waistband over the pins, it goes under the hole in the plate to make this way harder and limit movement. this is info that is hard to find typically on ebay and thought someone would like to not have to dig to find it. its not like these things come with directions....also i didn't realize early on why they cut that slot there and well, lets say chinese belts are cheap for a reason. where's those ikea instructions at :)

Did you buy one of these?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2854410384...ar=587371116697&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Would I be able to rewire the double cable to a single if I wanted to? (Good with hand tools/dremel; can't weld though)
How adjustable is the waistband?
How does the radial lock on the tip of the cage keep that plate attached?
How likely do you think the radial locks are to break? (And ease of replacement for that matter?)

I'm considering getting one with the 2 straps as a way of dipping my toe into full belts before trying anything custom. Ideally I'd be able to wear it for a day or so without making a mess trying to defecate or being able to touch myself meaningfully.

those you can easily do that yes. put the cable in the center hole and save the second one as a spare.

you might want to try this belt if you got a bit of extra cash as the locking mechanism is much securer https://www.ebay.com/itm/196333880436, literally is fully locked before the padlock hasp is applied. keep in mind the trick to getting this fully secure is sliding the waistband ends under the slot in the plate and then over the post. at this point your 'locked" and what i like about this design is get a cobolt drill bit and make a hole at the top through that latching plate and your belt is sealed and locked, an interesting option the pushbutton doesn't offer. The pushbutton ones just never gave me a confident feeling in public, the padlock/remote app lock one, even if the lock decides to open, your 100% still encased in the belt with the door open even. the snap lock is fully open and could be embarassing. also can use a 1/2 inch SPLIT shaft collar on it for me this was the way i went as you can see from my picture i would have a diaper on too and it was a inexpensive way to well, lets say not have to wonder about if the electronics were waterproof etc. believe me, you got a small pin through the flip over plate, unless your got a tool box and wire cutters, id say your not going to have access to whats in the tube....key or no key.

If I were to get that one, I don't think I'd want to use the original lock. How hard would it be to replace it with a traditional mechanical padlock that doesn't have excess wiggle room?

it looks like the abus 24/50 discus padlock would also fit with minor mods to the locking post. i don't get why they don't copy the female plate as while its still the normal padlock used in chinese products, its put in there in a way that id say the end user would not have an easy time getting it open short of a key.

please check the thread on the abus lock as it seems this could make this belt a bit more useful and give you a lock for your keybox, make the box "destructable" just in case to avoid the cellmate issue although im not sure if these are even possible to do that. why risk it.
