I would be interested to hear about what people prefer.
When I started out I didn't do the research and bought the default CB6000. Then moved on to a metal cage with a flat ring.
More experience led me to the ergonomically shaped rings and after that I can't believe anyone would prefer a flat ring.
Obviously I'm wrong, but why is a flat ring 'better'?

For me it’s about my balls and the cold weather where I live. I have a tight sack and with the more ergonomic shape ring it will try to pull through. Which in my opinion is worst than having the wrong ring and it pulling through. I went through 20-30 cheap aliexpress cages and when I got the vice… loved it. Something about it just makes it more comfortable.

I’m sure it’s down to your personal anatomy, and what fits you the best! We each are all different on our own way.

It's not "better". One type of ring may be better for someone else's body shape and skin type, and a different type of ring may be better for yours.

Generally, flatter rings present more surface area to your skin than round cross section rings.
The point pressure anywhere around a flat ring is very much reduced compared to a round one of the same diameter. For some skin types that reduced pressure may be preferable. However, increased skin contact area means less ventilation so higher humidity and dirt aggregation, that may be less optimal for other skin types. How elastic, sweaty, salty, oily, clean, dry or sticky your skin is through the day and night all play different parts.

One critical thing about "flat" rings isn't so much the flatness as the radius of the edges.
A sharper edge radius can cause severe point pressure along the edge (just like a knife edge), whereas a softer edge radius will be much more comfortable, even though the overall area in contact with the skin is similar. The same applies to holes in a cage, it's the smoothness vs sharpness of the edges of the holes rather than the size of them that causes the most discomfort.

I've had all sorts of similar diameter but differently shaped cross section rings, wearing each for month plus periods. The difference in comfort and health between them is considerable (and repeatable), even though looking at them superficially you'd think that there would be very little difference.

Whether you have high or low balls, and a tight or generous scrotum also play a part.
The key, is working out what works for you (and why).

Hi, I developed agroin problem during my last lock up. I tried the cherry keeper with an ergonomic ring and a knock off (sadly) cobra. I do wonder if the ergonomic ring is not right for me. I never had issues withh flat rings. However those devices were never as comfortable all around. I do wonder about the Vice. The hinged ring puts me off. I would welcome mor efeedback on the vice. I am high and tight!

Hinged rings pinch, this is the voice of experience!
I find that a round flat ring works best, but we are all different.

Avoid the hinged rings at all costs.
    That is all.

I've got a hinged curve ring.the hinge has a tubing cover over it, no pinch points, no problems. Been in it since June/July, no issues.

This new cage I've had on 5 days has an oval curved outward from body. Im finding it way more comfortable then a flat round one after a couple days adjustment to it. Doesn't spin or move like a round one does and the bend allows more room to squeeze in which adds enough to the cage to not be super squished in it.
