Yes, you can get chaffed with a cage that is too long. Aim for the same length as your flaccid penis. Ideally get the same design as the longer one so you can seemlessly swap between the two.

Thats what I did... Once you have the ring size sorted you can switch over to a metal pretty easily.

For your reference, my CB ring size was ring #3.... which for me matched almost exactly the 45mm Ternence hinged cage with the included rubber tubing installed.

Also note, you can buy the latex tubing very cheap from any hardware store.

I would suggest a cage 1/2 ypur length flaccid or shorter. I have one with only a pee hole, solid sides, solid tip. Very comfy and when I get hard not so much, but it is not to be comfy when hard...helps deter/reduce hardness. Shorter the better! Enjoy.
